New Moon marks the birth of a brand new Lunar Cycle. As we enter the waxing phase, this is typically a rather peaceful time leading to a period of growth and progress. This coming New Moon, however, looks to be a bit more difficult than usual.
One of the most notable factors is the New Moon conjoined with retrograding Mercury. This will strengthen the effects of the retrograde throughout the waxing phase. We will, however, be just past the retrograde influence by the next Full Moon.
This New Moon in Virgo is not only conjoined with Mercury, but also Saturn. This means the New Moon is also opposing Uranus, thus triggering the ongoing Saturn Uranus opposition. The combined effects certainly don’t paint a picture of an easy waxing Moon to come.
Saturn and Uranus have been in opposition for some time, and it will continue through next year. The overall effects of this opposition are an ongoing, pattern of change much more significant and long-term than a single Lunar cycle. However, with the strength of retrograding Mercury this Moon represents a significant challenge and opportunity.
Despite the bigger picture of the Saturn-Uranus opposition, it has effects on the more mundane aspects of daily life. Throughout the opposition, during times when it is triggered, there is a tendency towards chaos, unexpected glitches, and ever-changing rules and boundaries.
As the planet of change and the planet of stability meet head-to-head, we see an increase of challenges in both areas. Retrograding Mercury, unfortunately, does us no favors in this direction. Adding his element of confusion, and increasing glitches (particularly with computers) Mercury makes it both more difficult to stabilize or make lasting changes.
On a brighter note, the retrograding Mercury can actually help us make sense of the challenges, on a deeper level. When Mercury is retrograde our awareness naturally turns inward. This is one often overlooked benefit of the retrograde, as the more we think about something the less sense it makes. However, if you take a moment to not think – simply let yourself feel it is a different story. Perhaps you can’t put it into logical words. However, the sense – the feeling about a situation is often crystal clear under a Mercury retrograde.
The best plan for this New Moon and the following waxing phase is to take it one day at a time. Don’t set unrealistic goals for tangible progress, as you may well be disappointed. However, progress in terms of inner awareness, and external progress where you least expect it may likely come as a pleasant surprise. Keep an open mind, and an eye out for the obscure or unexpected opportunities.
