The astrological meaning of the Moon

Luna, Luna… To Pagans and Witches she is a Goddess; to astrologers she is one of the most important 'planets' shown in any chart.  The Moon has enchanted and fascinated people from all faiths and all walks of life since the beginning of time.  Magickal, romantic, beautiful… she holds a special place in the heart of everyone.

Wielding divine power, ruling astrological charts, and directing the ebb and flow of the tides just scratches the surface of her strength and power. Yet she does it all with such serene grace and beauty. She glides across the night sky, showering us with blessed silver light. She casts playful shadows across the Earth, enchanting lovers and fascinating children.

The most beautiful dance in the Universe, I believe, is that of Moon and Sun.  From the darkest of skies a New Moon is born. She is new, yet she is not. In the constant spiral of evolution, she has been reborn.

Like any death - symbolic or literal - the Moon does not cease to exist when the Cycle of Light ends. She is merging with the Sun. She is so close to the Solar center of the Universe we do not see her. When she returns from her descent into darkness, she begins anew. Beginning from a little different place, freed of the past cycle,  and venturing forward to illuminate dark skies ahead - a New Moon emerges.

Just a sliver of light appears in the night sky like magick. It is Magick. Luna is central to the practice of Magick, as well as the practice of living our daily lives. We, like the ocean, respond to the gentle guidance of the Moon, directing the ebb and flow. When we learn to 'go with the flow' we fall into rhythm.
